Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse will be more than just killing zombies. it will be about obtaining food, shelter, and living “off the grid”. Knowing how to combat a zombie hand to hand is a good skill to know, and knowing which weapons are effective can save your life… but do you know how to distill urine to get fresh drinking water? How to use lime to create a latrine? Can you make a fire without matches or a lighter?

You may have to combat the undead, but you WILL have to feed yourself, and find water, and known how to do things like create a fire, and make a shelter.

General survival knowlege may be more important than combat skills. Remember, you have to survive more than zombies.

Aside from your immediate family that may be in the same place as you, you should avoid trying to get to anyone to help them. Once the Zombie outbreak begins, and makes it into your area, it is already too late. You need to worry about yourself and hope that you have gathered your family and supplies up before the outbreak reaches your area.

You can not worry about everyone else, and you need to focus on keeping your family and yourself safe. Hope that your friends and distant family have escape plans of their own. Remember, You Can’t Save Everyone.

Survival in a zombie infested world is not about weapons and killing mass numbers of zombies, it is instead about avoiding confrontation. When one mistake can be your last, dealing with the least number of undead you can gives you the best chance for survival. Stay hidden, avoid crowded areas, and be safe.

Review Of Dead City by Joe McKinney

83% Good

Zombie fans will enjoy this book. I like when a writer makes a small spin on something familiar. In this particular zombie thriller, the zombies are not technically dead. Also, there are a few fast moving zombies, not very many, and the author never explains why there are fast moving zombies at all.

Battered by five cataclysmic hurricanes in three weeks, the Texas Gulf Coast and half of the Lone Star State is reeling from the worst devastation in history. Thousands are dead or dying–but the worst is only beginning. Amid the wreckage, something unimaginable is happening: a deadly virus has broken out, returning the dead to life–with an insatiable hunger for human flesh…

The book is well written. The main character is a police officer, and is on duty when the horror begins. I would have anyone considering this book to note that the entire bulk of the book happens within the span of a single night. There is very little information prior to the zombie outbreak, and the book ends with very little regarding life after. It is more about the struggle of the main character finding his wife and child.

Zombie awareness has skyrocketed over the past decade. There are thousands of t-shirts related to zombies, Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide sold out of bookstores, there has been a plethora of movies made on the subject, and several successful game franchises as well. Cracked explains 5 scientific reasons a zombie apocalypse could happen.

If all of the increased awareness doesn’t get you thinking about your survival plan, you may just be one of those doomed to shamble around searching for human flesh until you turn to dust and bones. (5-10 years from what I’ve heard).

When I see the presidential debates on TV, I want to know why they are not discussing the threat of a zombie apocalypse. What do they have in place to protect us from a zombie invasion from another country? I believe we need to have a national zombie awareness day to get these issues out in the open before it’s too late.
